Level 2 Award in Technical Understanding of Fire-Rated Ductwork and Dampers
Aim: to enable delegates to familiarise themselves with the more popular products and systems used in fire rated ducting and fire damper systems. Make attendees aware of the ‘do’s and don’ts’ for installing such products, providing an overall understanding of why it is important that they are installed to specification.
Delivery: The sessions will be delivered using mainly PowerPoint presentations and group discussion. Photographs and samples are used to emphasize certain aspects of the course.
Award: Each candidate will receive a certificate if a successful understanding has been gained.

Level 2 Award (Ofqual Regulated Qualification)
Delivery:
The presentation looks generically at the types of protection and the method of installation for the protection system. This product module looks at ‘Fire Rated Ductwork Systems’.
The ductwork system module provides an introduction to the fire rated ductwork systems used throughout modern buildings and their installation requirements. The module also looks at how the correct installation of the ductwork system is important to prevent fire spread through a building. The module is generally run at two levels – introductory (aimed at those people with little or no experience in the basic requirements of the building regulations) and advanced (those with some knowledge of the building regulations). The differences between the two levels are highlighted below.
The first part of the fire rated ductwork and fire damper module provides an introduction as to why different types of fire rated ductwork and fire dampers are required and relates them to the building regulations and associated documentation. This section is followed by details of how the fire rated ductwork systems and fire dampers are tested.
The next section provides a brief synopsis of the types of ductwork systems and fire dampers and some essential points relating to those systems within a building. This is followed by a detailed look at the types and designs of fire rated ductwork and fire damper systems. The latter part of this section deals with the specific make-up of the duct system, hangers, bearers, fixings and supporting construction.
The penultimate section presents details on the ancillary equipment for the ductwork and fire damper system and the associated penetration sealing system.
The final part briefly deals with health & safety, storage and handling of ductwork and fire damper systems.
Assessment:
There is a written test after which one to one feedback is given. This is a knowledge based test which requires a pass mark of 60% and above.
